1/16/2014 0 Comments 2013-2014 Voyage of Dana21 January 2014— Early morning at 05h30, BEST Committee Members gathered at Daw San Nwe’s house to board a 10 seater Toyota van and set off on the BEST donation road to upper Myanmar. After a brief lunch stop at 115 mile along the motorway, the BEST delegation arrived at Kuaukpadaung. There, they were welcomed to the home of Daw San Nwe’s relatives who hosted the delegation with various local specialities. The BEST delegation then continued to Pakokku. On crossing the longest bridge over the Irrawaddy river into Pakokku, the delegation was welcomed by teachers from the Sugyi Pan-taung parahita school. With them, the BEST delegation was able to worship the famous pagodas of the area – Thiho Shin Pagoda and Shwekugyi pagoda. The delegation spent the night at the lodging organised by the Sugyi Pan-taung Parahita school. They also made a pilgrim- age to the famous pagodas in the Myingyan area. Early morning of the 23 January 2014, the BEST delegation continued its journey up north to the Sagaing Hills . That eve- ning, the delegation went to worship Kaung HmuTaw pagoda. Early morning on 24 January, the delegation offered morning dana to gilana sanghas, tharma- nay novices, nuns, doctors and staff at the Sitagu Aryudana hospital (photo above).BEST Patron Professor Robert Taylor then gave a lecture at the International Buddhist Academy. Following his lecture, there was a lively questions and answers session with the stu- dents at the Academy. To the Shan Highlands, Pyin U Lwin... Early morning on 25 January, the BEST delegation continued further north to the Shan highlands to the Pyin U Lwin hill station (formerly Maymyo). The BEST delegation arrived at the DoPinChaung Parahita free school for orphans. BEST Patron Professor Robert Taylor and BEST President U Nay Win gave speeches at the school. Thedelegationthendonated1 million Kyats to the school. The donation ceremony at DoPin- Chaung (see above photo) again received widespread media cover- age given by MRTV and Skynet. As it was too late to return to Yangon on 25 January, the delegation stayed on at Pyin U Lwin thanks to U Chan Thar who took charge of all board and lodging costs at Pyin U Lwin. OTHER HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE2013/2014 DONATION ROUND 4th February 2014 – Letpandan and Minhla (photo above) - BEST delegation travelled to Letpandan and Minhla to donate 1 million Kyats to Phusin Metta Clinic – Sunday Dhamma School Foundation, Free Funeral Service Association and Payarn- gasu sarthinteit. 7 December 2013, Yangon – Donation of 1 million Kyats to Tipitaka Mahagan- dawyone by members of BEST Trust—Dr. Aung Yi and wife Dr. Yin Yin Myaing (UK) who were on a visit to Myanmar.
